Rosemary's dresses in Rosemary's Baby (1968)

sleeveless, floral/pastel garments evoking
purity and innocence. Yet they function as
paradox: symbols of freedom and fertility worn
during her slow enclosure in paranoia and
dread. Proto-bohemian before the 70s, tethered
to paranoia. Mia Farrow's doe-eyed fragility
makes the dresses ache -- clothing as
innocence-as-armor.
